Santa Claus and Christmas

Hi Lewis, Isaac and Lincoln,

This I feel I must share with the 3 of you. It is all about Santa Claus and Christmas. Many especially those in the developed West have started questioning the existence of Santa Claus, that favorite of children who climbs down chimneys and deliver nice Christmas presents for children. It seems that has occurred as long ago as 111 years ago when Virginia O'Hanlon wrote to the New York Sun: Dear Editor - I am eight years old. Some of my little friends say there is no Santa Clause. Papa says, 'If you see it in the Sun, it's so.' Please tell me the truth, is there a Santa Claus?

It seems that Francis Pharcellus Church, a pastor's son and a senior writer at the Sun then gave a very good reply and it is that that I want to share with all of you. Here it is:

Virginia, your little freinds are wrong. They have been affected by the skepticism of a skeptical age. They do not believe except what they see. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds. All minds, Virginia, whether they be men's or children's are little. In this great universe of ours man is a mere insect, an ant, in intellect, as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of truth and knowledge.

Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! how dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus. It would be as dreary as if there were no Virginias. There would be no childlike faith then, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight. The eternal light with which childhood fills the world would be extinguished.

Not believe in Santa Claus! You might as well not believe in fairies! You might get your Papa to hire men to watch all the chimneys on Christmas Eve to catch Santa, but even if they did not see Santa Claus coming down, what would that prove? Nobody sees Santa Claus, but that is no sign that there is no Santa Claus. The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see. Did you ever see fairies dancing on the lawn? Of course not, but that's no proof that they are not there. Nobody can conceive or imagine all the wonders there are unseen and unseeable in the world.

Your tear apart the baby's rattle and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all these strongest men that ever lived, could tear apart. Only faith, fancy, poetry, love, romance, can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? Ah, Virginia, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding.

Tian Mi Mi Teresa Teng especially for Mi Me

Hi all,

This may be a song for your mother (Isaac Low), auntie (Lewis and Lincoln Chew) and sister:

This is my favorite Teresa Teng's Mandarin song - Tian Mi Mi (Sweet Mi Mi or Sweet Honey Honey or Sweet Mi Me). It is not only my favorite song for listening pleasure, but also favorite song for my costless exercise machine.

Here is one with Chinese as well as Pin Yin lyrics if you are interested:

World Youngest Mechani Lewis Chew

Believe it or not, Lewis Chew is the youngest mechanic in the world. Don't believe me? View the video below. See Lewis Chew "repairing a motobike".

Christmas party games

My dear grandchildren. Christmas is just about a month to go. Soon you will be celebrating Christmas with your parents. For Lewis, this will be the second Christmas you will be celebrating while for Isaac, it will be the very first Christmas. White Christmas will be very nice, but unfortunately for us, the only snow will be the "snow" we see in the car snow wash. Just wish you are old enoght to enjoy a Christmas party and play christmas party games.

But never mind, Lewis have nice set of teeth now and will be able to enjoy Christmas cookies. Perhaps your parents will make some homemade Christmas gifts for you.

My super-achievers grandchildren

Wow, I have a family of super achievers grandchildren. First there is the youngest blogger in the world. Then Lewis Chew earned the title of world's youngest drummer with his "almost perfect" drumroll. That is not the end. Lewis Chew also became the world's youngest cyclist, making good use of the new bicycle his grandpa gave him. There is no end to his talent as Lewis Chew also became the world's youngest basketball player.

Not to be outdone, Lewis Chew's cousin, Isaac Low delivered his first public speech and became the world's youngest public speaker.

What next? World's youngest astronauts?

My grandchildren

Hi Lewis,

Soon you will have a cousin and a bit later, a brother. Rather than waiting another 2weeks, I have decided to change the blog title from "My first grandchild" to "My grandchildren". Let us pray for an easy and safe birth for your cousin, Lewis.

Poem on how to live a life happily

Hi Lewis,

Pretty soon, I wouldn't be addressing you only because the title of this blog will soon be changed to "My Grandchildren" and you will have a competitor and I a problem. Who do I address my message to? Anyway, for the moment, you have my sole attention, and here is some advice to you from one of your aunt how to live life. Good advice. You should take it "seriously" if I were you:

Life is short,
live simply,
Forgive quickly,
Love truly,
Laugh yourself silly,
Be healthy,
Smile always
And be happy...

I will see if the author of this nice poem wants to be identified by name, and if necessary, edit this post later so if you find the poem (advice) useful, you can thank that aunt in person.
